I was getting out of my car and the rainbow appeared above the church at Breacleit on the island of Great Bernera Scotland. I quickly grabbed my camera and started shooting. #isleoflewis @outerhebs

I am not religious but when this quick snap opportunity photo appeared, the first thing I thought of was hope.
It was seeing this little church braving all weathers surviving as a community focal point rather than like so many others falling into disuse.
Great Bernera or more commonly known as Bernera, is a small island off the main Isle of Lewis. It’s a beautiful peaceful place and we stayed next to the church in Lochan View Cottage. I can recommend the cottage, it’s a lovely place to stay right on the side of the Loch.
The only time the road gets busy is when there is a church service. Even then the place stays blissfully quiet.
With a population of approximately 250 people in 21 square miles of island it’s got plenty of open space and beautiful beaches. It’s connected to the main island by a bridge that is in process of being replaced and when we visited the nearest shop was about 20 minutes away. The island shop was closed but was up for sale when we visited. I was so tempted to buy it and move up there permanently.
I will post some more photos soon from Bernera and the Isle of Lewis.
