We woke up yesterday to snow. Where we live it does not stay for very long. So it was up, out, dogs in the car and lets have some fun.

We headed up to Belmont, a small village below Winter Hill. True to its name winter really had come to the bill.

Our original plan was to park up by Hordern Stoops and follow the path over Spitlers Edge and maybe Great Hill. But Rivington Road was iced over. So we parked at the car park at the top of Wards Reservoir or as it’s know locally the Blue Lagoon.

After a good chat with some local Land Rover owners and envious looks at their kitted out vehicles we had a try at walking up Rivington Road.

But it was thick fog, slick with ice and we were in danger of passing vehicles sliding into us. A Mountain Rescue Land Rover drove by and had a little bit of a slide. So we headed back down to the car park.

Opting for safety we went for a stroll around the Blue Lagoon. It holds 150,000m2 of water and was built to supply Rycroft Works and then enlarged to supply Belmont Bleach Works.

The dogs were loving the snow, though one of them had to tunnel through the drifts. As we were not in a hurry we took the time to take in the view through the mist and throw snowballs at each other.
